In this case, CH2 were approached with a late request for help. The Council had designed an highly optimised waste collection regime to deliver essential cost savings. This included breaking the traditional “mirrored” refuse and recyclables collections into two entirely separate optimised regimes, to deliver maximum service benefits.
Although the Council was confident that the collection regime would deliver the savings required, it was going to be difficult to communicate the changes to householders, and shield them from the complexity of the new operational arrangements. Although serving a population of only 71,000 the new regime required 132 unique calendar combinations – and they only had a few weeks to go before the planned rollout …
CH2 worked very closely with the service team and together developed and checked the master dataset in just a few days. CH2 was able to get the first calendar proofs out for checking shortly after. The Council chose to make use of CH2’s partnership with Mail Marketing to deliver a complete packaged solution, including shell design, calendar production, digital printing and final distribution. All of this was achieved in record time – completed in less than 4 weeks, from start to finish. The Council turned to CH2 and Mail Marketing again in 2013 for a calendar update, incorporating several service changes. The calendar count is now 160.
Notable features of this commission include exploiting the ability of the CH2 system to cope with a mix of weekly and fortnightly residual waste collections, and the option to show holiday collection rescheduling. The Council had well-established arrangements in place with the workforce and union regarding public and bank holiday working, so CH2 were able to configure all calendars in advance to show these holiday service adjustments.
