In this case, the Council had used the CH2 calendar service before and returned again the following year for updated calendars, this time in a new layout.
The brief was to produce an 18 month calendar to fit within a specific A4 template, which was to be folded twice to allow mailing in a standard DL envelope. This approach was designed to maximise the size of the calendar (important for legibility) but also to keep mail distribution costs low.
The CH2 system allows for flexible layout options, and in this case calendars set out in 3 vertical blocks were specified, corresponding to the 3 panels of a folded A4 sheet.
The Council’s in-house design team generated an initial “shell” template, and CH2 configured the system to produce calendar inserts with matched colours and fonts (see example opposite) to merge with the shell at print production to produce a seamless end result.
A custom key layout was also developed as an option, placing the key in a vertical block in the bottom left hand panel of the shell.
