We\u00a0already have a cost model – why do we need another ?<\/strong><\/span> – Typically, cost models\u00a0that are developed in-house tend to address immediate project requirements and are difficult to “grow” with the project. They may only give a narrow, initial\u00a0view. They can be\u00a0difficult to adapt to changing project specifications, and don’t always\u00a0lend themselves to\u00a0“what-if” analyses either. As projects become more complex comparing multiple options can be awkward, and confusing. Our highly-structured system has been designed from the outset to be flexible,\u00a0adaptable, and to\u00a0facilitate sensitivity testing across a range of\u00a0options because (in our experience) there is rarely\u00a0just one single answer.<\/p>\n

\"shutterstock_156357998\"<\/strong><\/span>How is your model different ?<\/strong><\/span> – In our experience, most cost models are focused on a\u00a0specific element of a project and consequently\u00a0there’s a risk that the wider cost implications aren’t included, which could give misleading results.\u00a0Our approach can model the whole operation, from refuse collection, transfer, through to\u00a0processing and disposal. We can account for collection and transfer costs, CapEx and OpEx, management costs, overheads, income, tax, contract incentives and\u00a0differential indexation\u00a0– to name just a few – and we can adapt the model to address any specific requirements. This can give a genuinely strategic overview, and help support clients through\u00a0a more robust option appraisal process to a better result.<\/p>\n

How do\u00a0I know that the model is accurate ?<\/span><\/strong> – We always start with a model baseline, which replicates where the client organisation is now. This is useful as a reference point, but is also used to calibrate the model against\u00a0known operational and budget-based data. Once this calibration is complete and has been “signed off”\u00a0(usually in collaboration with representatives from finance) all future models are built using the baseline as a starting point.<\/p>\n

Can I have a copy of the model ?<\/strong><\/span> – Yes. We will provide\u00a0full copies of the results (tailored to suit your requirements) but it’s not practical to release\u00a0a fully functional\u00a0copy of the model. The models are extremely complex and without a\u00a0understanding of the structure,\u00a0operation and programmed functions, it would be very easy for a casual user to produce\u00a0misleading results and not necessarily be aware of it. So, for security,\u00a0we don’t release functional copies\u00a0of the model to end users.<\/p>\n
